FDTD Interoperability in the ASAP 2005 Release
Jan 03, 2005
In the ASAP 2005 release, BRO will be offering interoperability with a commercial full-vector Maxwell solver based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique. The resulting combination of ASAP and FDTD will offer comprehensive optical design capabilities unlike any other — an environment able to handle both macroscopic optical systems and microstructures in an elegant manner.
Examples of systems requiring this expanded modeling capability include display backlight units, CD and DVD data-reading systems, numerous telecommunications devices, and other optical systems with both macro and microstructures working in concert in the optical path. No other combination of design software will span such a large optical space, allowing optical designers the capabilities necessary to address a whole range of problems that were previously inaccessible.
